In Memory

Charles F. Getchell

Chuck was born August 22, 1944 in De Moines, Iowa. After graduating high school, he served in the US Army, married and divorced. A daughter was born in 1970.

In 1996 he underwent double transplant surgery. For most of his life, Chuck was an electrical main lineman, before going to work for Kansas Department of Health and Environment. He retired in 2004.

He married Glenda in 1981 and lived out in the Kansas countryside for about 25 years. He had a large three car garage where he restored old cars and pickups, built a roadster and did a lot of woodworking. He also owned a bass boat, was an avid fisherman and for many years coached little league baseball. According to his wife, "There wasn't much he couldn't do!"

On September 11, 2007 Chuck lost his battle with cancer in Chanute, Kansas.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda, a daughter, Natalie, and two grandchildren, Michael and Alex.

Chuck was a dear soul, with a little devil in his eyes!! I remember in Lathrop, he would tease me unmercifully and then at Valley he eased off a bit. That was just Chuck!! He liked to tease, but was never mean spirited.

While planning our 45th reunion,  I was so blessed one day to be able to talk and laugh with him again for over an hour....he never mentioned cancer, though a couple of weeks before the reunion he lost that battle.

May you rest in peace, my friend......I miss you!
