In Memory

Theodore Samuel Hottenfeller

Theodore Samuel Hottenfeller was born February 4, 1944 in Kansas and died September 28, 1975 in Orange, CA.  I had heard that he had committed suicide.  He was only 31 years old. Ted sat across from me in Mr. Martin's geometry class which is the only thing that made me want to go to that class the whole semester.  He was funny and had a quick sense of humor.  He is buried in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery where his father, Major Theodore Roosevelt Hottenfeller is buried.  His father also served in the Air Force.

Ted was such a barrel of fun, always making people laugh!!  I have an amusing story to share about this loveable fellow.....

One day after school several of us were watching the baseball team practice. We were all starving, but no one had any food except Ted, who had an apple. We tried in vain to get Ted to share, but he teasingly hid it behind his back as we all made futile attempts to grab it.

Finally, Ted (making a big display and gloating as he took the first bit) chomped down and swallowed . As he started to take another bite, he looked at the apple, and there, still wiggling, was a WORM!!!  That apple flew 10 feet into the air and poor Ted fell gagging on the ground!!  It was a funny scene as Ted carried on for 15 minutes!!

I was sad to hear of Ted's death.....he was so charming and fun to know in high school.

RIP friend.....heart

Ted and I became friends while at Smedley. It was by accident...I was talking to someone, I think it was Marsha Loats, about the Mickey Mouse Club show. Ted was close by and quickly spring up to join the conversation. He was an ardent fan of the show, reciting word for word those members he liked. He would always seek me out to discuss the previous day's show. If I remember right...he like Cubby since he could play drums.

Ted had a depreciating humor....although I never knew if he was being funny or somewhat serious.

I know he's happy and the center of attention wherever he is.
